Opus One was founded in 1978 by two wine figures: Baron Philippe de Rothschild, owner of Château Mouton Rothschild, and Robert Mondavi, famous winemaker from the Napa Valley. By reconciling the experiences of both families, the goal was to create an exceptional wine. The vineyard which extends on 55ha is planted with Bordeaux grape varieties.  In 2004, Constellation Brands, Inc. acquired Robert Mondavi Winery and maintained its association with Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
