Almaviva
In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and Don Alfonso Larraín, President of Concha y Toro, signed a partnership agreement to create a great Franco-Chilean wine called Almaviva. The estate has a mansion, a winery and a vineyard of 50 hectares bringing together three typical Bordeaux grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère. This great wine is the fruit of a happy meeting between two cultures: Chile offers its soil, its climate and its vineyards; France brings its know-how and its traditions in winemaking.
The name of Almaviva belongs to classical French literature: the Count Almaviva is the hero of the famous play of Beaumarchais (1732-1799), Le Mariage de Figaro, which became an opera by the genius of Mozart. The label bears the name “Almaviva” from Beaumarchais’ own writing and pays tribute to the ancestral history of Chile with three reproductions of a symbolic drawing of the Mapuche civilization.
